THE annual Arts and Media Exhibition at Treloar College in Holybourne showcased imagery created by students throughout the academic year.
Held in the Jowett Centre, then college’s purpose-built exhibition area, the event, aptly called Creative Explosion, included pieces created using a wide variety of media such as digital manipulation, sculpture, animation, textiles and printmaking.
A private viewing of the exhibition was held on Tuesday, July 19, to give proud parents, artists and other invited guests the opportunity to view and celebrate the students’ achievements.
Jo McSherrie, Treloar’s head of college, opened the event. She said: “I am always hugely impressed and inspired by our students’ achievements. They show considerable skills and talents and every single student who has contributed to this exhibition should be very, very proud.”
Ms McSherrie also thanked photography tutor Colin Zealey, art tutor Gemma Ellis and other staff who support students and nurture their creative talents.
Former Treloar’s student – and mouth and foot painting artist – Tom Yendell also said a few words at the private view, using the example of his own journey to demonstrate the possibilities open to students.
The students themselves loved telling the gathered guests what inspired them and how they used different media to achieve the sought-after effect.
Some business-savvy media students also took advantage of the fact they were surrounded by art-loving individuals to sell cards, mugs and other decorative items that they and their classmates had made for a project.
As well as contributing to the annual exhibition, students are encouraged to organise their own solo exhibitions in the Jowett Centre to give them valuable first-hand experience of the various stages of hosting an exhibition, from concept to execution, whilw also giving staff, students and visitors another opportunity to see their beautiful and inspiring art and photographs.
Details of forthcoming exhibitions at Treloar’s, by students and also by guest artists, can be found on the college’s website: www.
