HEADLEY Horticultural Society held its spring show last Saturday, attracting more than 200 exhibits.

There were plenty of daffodils and tulips, with Mary Nice winning the Pat Miller Cup, for her container of Birma daffodils, for the second year running.

A new flower-arranging class for novices attracted five exhibitors. This class will be repeated at the next two shows, with the overall winner being presented with a new award, the Newman Shield, donated by Brian Newman, a regular judge at Headley.

Blankets for premature babies were knitted for one of the handicraft classes and donated to London-based charity Bliss.

Handmade boxes and a variety of cushions and table runners were also on show.

Organisers said “a good number of visitors” spent the afternoon “admiring the exhibits” and “enjoying a cup of tea and homemade cake in the warmth of the marquee”.
