Treloar’s in Holybourne welcomed its patron Alan Titchmarsh to a Giving Tuesday event on November 29 which thanked donors and supporters for their generosity.

Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 to inspire people to give to charity and shine a spotlight on the work of local charities.

Treloar’s invited a small group of donors and supporters to tea for a chance to meet some students and staff. Mr Titchmarsh was invited along to give a surprise speech to thank the donors in person.

Mr Titchmarsh, who lives nearby, described how Treloar’s students “enrich our society”. He thanked Treloar’s supporters for making such a difference through their backing, getting involved and “making things happen”.

The television gardener has visited Treloar’s on many occasions, including for the opening of the primary playground and outdoor learning centre.

Student Ben was excited to be part of the welcoming group. He said afterwards: “It has made my year. It was a surprise. Alan gave me some seeds and told me how to plant them. It was the best surprise.”

Supporter Peter Cox added: “Treloar’s is the most worthwhile charity we support as we can really see the value of our donations.”
