THE gardens at Gilbert White’s House Museum in Selborne have again played host to the annual unusual plants fair.

Now in its 26th year, the event has become a mecca for gardeners from far and wide who are keen to indulge their passion for plants, as they peruse stalls packed with a variety of fascinating and unusual plants and soak up expert advice.

In addition, visitors were treated to tours of the garden in the company of Andrew Bentley, the garden manager at Chawton House, who gave an intriguing and humorous talk on his top five persuasive plants, and there were workshops on rose growing and flower arranging.

The award for best in show this year went to Yvonne’s Plants from Gosport, a regular exhibitor at the unusual plants fair, and commended by the judges for its “fantastic display of heritage vegetables”.

Next year’s unusual plants fair will take place on June 15-16.
