ACTIVITIES to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day are set to take place in Bordon from May 8 to 10.

Whitehill Town Council agreed to take a lead on the “more formal” Friday event, according to Councillor Bisi Kennard, with The Last Post set to be played at 3pm.

The Saturday is said to be more of a “street party style”, while Sunday will be “reflective”.

Cllr Kennard said the current plan for the Friday event is to host something “similar to our Remembrance event”, with Vicar Debbie Scott-Bromley offering to lead a service and refreshments available to the public.

It is proposed to take place at the town’s war memorial, situated at the junction of Camp Road and Ennerdale Road. Councillors suggested an alternative location of the Forest Community Centre, but it was decided to ask the military for their preference.

Cllr Katie Anscomb said Bordon is a “military town” with a “huge history”, adding: “We have to provide support for it.”
