New DRIVERS are needed for a service which provides transport for people in the Bordon and Whitehill area to NHS sites across Hampshire and parts of Surrey.

The call for volunteers came in the same week as Bordon and Whitehill Voluntary Car Service announced its new contact number – 07596 701312.

The voluntary car service, which has been funded by grants and donations, offers vital support to patients who don’t have their own or family transport.

It has been operating in its present form for 25 years, taking people to GP surgeries, out-patient and other appointments.

Dr Frank Williams-Thomas, chairman of the committee which runs the service and retired Bordon GP, said: “We have a team of about 20 drivers, who are reimbursed the maximum per mile allowed by the Inland Revenue for volunteer drivers.

“We really need more younger drivers to be able to feel the future of the service is secure. Newly retired people, or those in between employment, would be ideal.”

All drivers have a CRB or DBS check and full training is given. Call above number for more.
