NEIGHBOURHOOD Watch co-ordinators have warned people to remain vigilant after a series of attempted internet frauds.
Fraudulent websites alleging to offer ‘crypto currency’ investments are dishonestly using the image of Martin Lewis, the founder and editor for moneysavingexpert.com, as an endorsement for their companies.
Sally Tunstell, Odiham Neighbourhood Watch area co-ordinator, said these warnings “seem to be coming thick and fast as more people try to scam us out of our hard-earned money”.
“Once again I ask you to please be mindful of those in the community that may be easily lured into making mistakes and being caught out by these people,” she added.
The adverts using Mr Lewis to promote illicit schemes can be found on social media and other websites. Once clicked, victims will be taken through a process to get their banking details.
Action Fraud’s advice is to be particularly wary of unsolicited investment opportunities, remain sceptical about pop-up ads and to assume that if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is. Visit cyberaware.gov.uk.
