A landmark garage in Alton is getting a fresh start as a car wash.

Plans to turn the iconic Pritchards garage on Anstey Road into a hand car wash have been approved by East Hampshire District Council.

The proposals for ‘Pristine Car Valeting Alton Ltd’ include demolition of the asbestos-roofed paint shop and a tidier appearance.

“This iconic site on Anstey Road Alton will continue the legacy of the previously used garage by developing the site and buildings into a hand car wash, otherwise the site will remain empty and deteriorate,” reads the applicant’s design and access statement.

There are restrictions on hours of operations and noise with the applicants also being asked to provide water discharge details.
