MOTORISTS are being warned about the dangers of jumping temporary red lights as part of a South East Water campaign.
A small minority of motorists have been seen skipping red lights at the company’s work sites, forcing the system to reset and the network to revert to red.
Not only does this present significant danger to motorists and pedestrians, it can also cause lengthy traffic build-ups.
Chris Love, delivery manager at South East Water, said: “Sometimes, temporary traffic lights are put in place in order to safely guide road users around our construction area.
“While we recognise that the majority of motorists follow the correct Highway Code, we have seen a small number of drivers passing the temporary traffic lights while on red.
“This could potentially cause a road traffic collision or endanger pedestrians who may be crossing the road.
“When a red light is skipped, the entire network of traffic lights in the area resets – meaning they all go back to red.
“We would urge those motorists to think about their actions.”
South East Water is urging anyone witnessing drivers jumping red lights to call the police on 101.
