A ROLLER fundraising marathon will take place on Sunday at Bordon’s Prince Philip Barracks in aid of the Cedar Centre for diabetes at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford.

The event, at the Budds Lane barracks, will start at 10am and participants need to take their own mode of rolling, or wheeled, transport, whether it be a bicycle, a skateboard, a longboard or a wheelchair. Nothing motorised is allowed.

Each lap of the circuit is one-and-a-half miles and the route includes rolling through a former military hangar.

The full marathon is 26.2 miles, but entrants can complete as much of the course as they like.

A tuck shop will be available.

The event can only take place if the weather is dry.

Heather Pocock, founder of DiscoSkate in Hampshire and Surrey and organiser of the roller marathon, said: “DiscoSkate was something we started when our son was diagnosed with type-one diabetes.

“From day one the Cedar Centre has been there helping us make life as normal as possible.”

There is no entry fee but participants are asked to make a donation on the day.
