THE Watercress Line is bringing back its popular Wizard Weekend event this month to celebrate 20 years since the release of the first Harry Potter book.
Fans can dress up in Hogwarts uniforms, pose for a selfie on the very bridge Harry received his Hogwarts Express ticket, and travel up and down the line in Hogwarts-style carriages with unlimited rides on the Wizard Express steam train.
They can even meet real characters, as Gringotts goblins actors Michael Henbury and Brian Wheeler will be on hand to sign autographs in the very carriage where Harry met his new best friends Ron and Hermione in the first Potter film, The Philosopher’s Stone.
For the price of a ticket, as well as celebrating two decades of Harry Potter, fans of all things magical will get the chance to come face-to-face with creepy crawlies, see an owl, ride on the miniature railway, learn how to make a witch’s broomstick, marvel at magic tricks and take part in Harry Potter-themed craft activities.
Witches and wizards of all ages are also invited to dress up and take part in a fancy-dress competition. Taking place on both days of the event, which runs from October 28-29, Harry Potter prizes are available for the best-dressed adult and child.
Watercress Line managing director Colin Chambers said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating with our Wizard Weekend this year and really can’t wait to see people arriving in costume. Our staff will be getting in the spirit by dressing up and the stations will be decorated ready for Hallowe’en, so the whole line will be ready to thrill visitors.
“Unlimited rides on the Wizard Express will give our ghoulish passengers a Hallowe’en weekend to remember.”
