An 85-year-old woman suffered serious injuries after tripping on a pavement in Alton town centre.
Peta Sutherland fell over a stopcock cover in Normandy Street, between Heaven’s Kitchen and Chefs Kitchen, on March 2.
Her injuries included cuts and bruising to her face, neck, knee and hand, including a cut nose and bruising to her chin and between her mouth and nose.
Hampshire County Council has since inspected the area and scheduled repairs to the pavement.
Ms Sutherland’s daughter, Kima Sutherland-Dee, contacted East Hampshire MP Damian Hinds after the incident and raised wider concerns about the condition of pavements in the town.
She said: “She is keen to highlight that she is not the only one. The more we speak to people, the more similar trip or fall stories come out.
“I and everyone I speak to has noticed a real deterioration in the pavements and paving slabs in town.
“Hampshire County Council seems to do the usual patch-up of individual slabs but it must be time for a full survey of the state of the pavements around town.”
Mr Hinds said he had raised the matter with the county council.
He said: “I was very sorry to hear of Kima’s mother’s fall and I know it’s also worrying because a fall can lead to other issues.
“I do encourage people to report paving problems to the county council. I am in touch with Kima and the council about the wider context she raises.”
A Hampshire County Council spokesperson said: “We were very sorry to hear about this recent incident and hope that the lady involved is recovering well.
“In addition to routine safety inspections of county council managed pavements, when concerns are raised we assess sites, and any safety-related defects identified are prioritised for repair.
“In this case, an engineer has inspected the area and repairs to the footpath have been scheduled.
“We encourage residents to report issues to the county council directly, either online or via the OurHants app, so they can be inspected and the appropriate action taken.”
