ALDERSHOT & FARNHAM remain in top spot in the South East Men’s Division 1 West – and still firmly on course for promotion going into the mid-season break.

They overcame a spirited Brighton and Hove 6-1.

The Shots started strongly, with the creative midfield work of Rushmere, Whelan, Morhall, Treadgold and Boot carving out multiple opportunities for the forwards.

This provided the opening goal through Jake Coombes, tapping in at the far post.

Brighton fought back and following a turnover in their own half, Aldershot presented the ball to the Brighton frontline and the following attack was scrambled in past a despairing Hall to make it 1-1.

The response was immediate – and without panic. Scott Perry resumed his fine goalscoring form, firstly from a short corner fired high above the keeper’s right shoulder, then a second low into the bottom corner.

After the break, the industrious forward line of Weston, Frost, Cryer, Coombes and Groves were all willing runners and this effort was rewarded with goals for Cryer and Groves, before a Stuart Morhall piledriver, repeating his effort on the half-volley from the previous week, made it 6-1.

The result was a vast improvement from the draw at the start of the season.
