The competitive season is soon to start with friendlies, Saturday and Sunday matches, and inter-club league competitions on Tuesday evenings across the three counties of Hampshire, Surrey and Sussex.
On a Wednesday evening Headley hold an internal league competition, so it’s all go for the club.
Headley are pleased to have new members this season and are always looking for more to join them.
Anyone interested should send an email to Daphne Milton at [email protected] or turn up at Headley sports fields on a Thursday afternoon where they hold a roll-up.
This year there is also a special open day for potential new members. It takes place all day on Friday (May 27).
Hidden away in a picture-pretty hollow on the outskirts of Farnham, the Bourne Bowls Club has been a source of local sporting enjoyment for almost nine decades.
Originally formed in 1934 by the Bourne branch of the Royal British Legion, Herald editions from that year record the green was created at a cost of £43 and cited fixtures against Seale and Sands, Frensham and Elstead RBL clubs.
That green has been cherished ever since and while currently undergoing modernisation and refurbishment continues to flourish as part of the Lower Bourne Social Club.
This year, Bowls England, the national governing body for flat green bowls, are sponsoring a nationwide Bowls Big Weekend to promote the sport, which can be enjoyed by all ages.
The Bourne Bowls Club, pictured above, will be participating on Saturday, May 28 by holding a free introductory afternoon of bowls fun and refreshment from 2pm until 5pm.
Find the club at 83 Burnt Hill Road, Lower Bourne, Farnham, GU10 3LL.
Haslemere Bowling Club will be holding a family day Bowls4Fun event on Sunday, May 29 at 2.30pm at their bowling green on the town’s recreation ground.
Committee member Miles Weston said: “It’s a free event – just bring soft-soled shoes.
“It will be an enjoyable afternoon and people can meet our friendly members and learn something about bowling.
“We can also arrange to give anyone interested some further tuition.”
