ALTON Cricket Club’s annual President’s Day match was also a fund- raising effort for the club.

The sides recruited by president Brian Gillingham and chairman Graeme Hughes met at a sun-bathed Jubilee Ground.

Town mayor Derek Gardner and his wife were amongst the guests and Derek conducted the toss with the two captains.

The President’s team batted first in the 20-over match and amassed 170 runs. It was a handsome total, but the Chairman’s XI raced to the target with five overs to spare.

Derek Gardner presented the trophy to the winning captain, Alex Hughes, and commiserated with the losing skipper, Michael Heffernan. Players and guests then enjoyed a hog roast.

Welcome revenue was raised for Alton CC who run four Saturday adult teams, a women’s side and the full range of junior teams.
