ALTON’S first team warmed up for the new season with a superb 208-run victory against Basingstoke & North Hants in a pre-season friendly at May’s Bounty on Saturday.

The visitors batted first and posted a hefty 300 for six from their allotted 50 overs.

Alton built on a 106-run stand by openers Dan Harris (73) and Mark Heffernan (55), and with Scott Myers hitting an unbeaten 53 the Brewers made it to 300.

Basingstoke began soundly enough through Matt Deadman (26) and Dan Belcher (21), but from 50 without loss, they plunged to 92 all out – all ten wickets falling for 42 runs.

Toby Salmon was the pick of the Alton attack with superb figures of four for 17.

Myers (two for ten), Tom South (two for three) and Nathan Vincent (two for eight) also impressed with the ball for the visitors.
