AT 27-4, Headley II were in danger of being skittled out in their I’Anson Division Three match at Peper Harow – as they had been the previous week at Wood Street.
With the indifferent bounce, Mark Wilson had reeled off six maidens from his first seven overs and although skipper Dom Johnson (24) hit six boundaries, the visitors were in deep trouble.
Bill Ray and Ian Neville steadied things and Ray also found good partners in Ben Ryder-Smith and Mike Hughes. Ray was last man out for a vital 29 and Headley were dismissed for 111 before their last man arrived.
Peper Harow looked to big-hitting skipper Glenn Taylor, playing his first Saturday game for several weeks, but after a couple of boundaries, he was bowled by a beauty from Charlie Worman. Struggling to come to terms with the pace of Ryder-Smith (4-19 in 11 overs), Peper Harow collapsed to 30-6. Slow bowlers Angus Proctor and Hughes worked their way through the lower order and the hosts were all out for 61 in the 29th over.
The clash of the ‘Grays’ was convincingly won by Grayswood II who beat Grayshott III by 95 runs at Broxhead. Grayswood made a halfway declaration at 190-6, but were heading for a much lower score when Tim Matthews (30 not out) was joined by first-team regular Rhys Dodson, coming in at number 8. Dodson hammered 89 off 63 balls, including 12 fours and two sixes.
After a shaky start against Pat Soper, Grayshott rallied through Ben Burrage (29) and Barry Owen (23). But the bowling was too good for the lower order and Grayshott were dismissed for 95.
Third-placed Bramley proved much too good for Kingsley. Put in on their own pitch, Kingsley were bowled out for a modest 112, including 31 extras. All the bowlers did well, with Rory Brooks-Kent (3-15) and Nick Hyett (3-22) having the best figures.
Steve Cooper took a quick wicket when Bramley replied, but it proved a false dawn as Ali Holmes (43 not out) and Henry Turner settled into an unbroken partnership. Turner just had time to reach his 50 as Bramley cruised home in the 26th over.
Blackheath II invited Milford to bat and the visitors knuckled down to post what looked a competitive 151-9 in 48 overs. Opener Darren Bierton top-scored with 22 (there were 28 extras) and Oliver Arengo-Jones was the pick of the bowlers with 4-36 in 14 overs.
Bramley, however, made the run-chase look easy and finished the job in 27 overs, thanks to a punishing 84 not out, including 13 fours and two sixes, from Matt Burch. Terry Brockman (38) shared in an opening stand of 98.
Puttenham II failed to raise a side for the match against Tilford II, the Division Three leaders.
