FARNHAM under-13 Shooting Stars floorball team travelled to take on opponents from the Cotswolds area.
With three brand-new players in their squad, the team were a bit of an unknown quantity – but they stormed to a big win in their first game, beating IPSE 8-1 with the goals being shared between Ollie Eaton (3) and Daniel Killick (5).
Their second match was going to be a bigger challenge as they were facing Cotswold Wasps, who had already defeated the Shooting Stars 4-1 in December.
This time the game was very competitive with both teams playing well.
Farnham were boosted by an excellent goalkeeping display from Rudi Mutter.
With game level at 3-3 late on, a goal from Samuel Banes-Walker gave Farnham the lead and as time ran out, captain Daniel Killick sealed the win by scoring a penalty shot.
A 5-3 victory was a fair reward for the efforts of the Farnham team.
Coach Dean Smith commented: “For a brand-new set of players, this group of youngsters has picked up the game quickly and they are learning all the time.
“It’s nice to win the matches, but more importantly they are starting to work as a team and to show an understanding of how to play floorball.
“They enjoyed these matches and it’s really nice to see.”
The club are continuing to look for new players – especially in school age Years 4 to 7.
