Petersfield Hockey Club’s men’s third team earned a comprehensive 5-1 win at Basingstoke’s sixth team.

Petersfield took the lead after four minutes when skipper Roberto Casabianca found Jonty Roberts, who scored.

Midfielders Matt Sabben-Clare, Ben Hughes and Gavin Marshall outperformed their opponents, launching precise passes to the forward line formed by Ewan and Toby Young and Charlie Oatley.

The speed and skill of Petersfield’s forwards gave Basingstoke’s defenders a tough time. Ewan and Toby Young both got on the scoresheet in the first half to give Petersfield a 3-0 lead at half-time.

Petersfield’s defence was well led by Paul Fisher, with Olly Caiger-Smith and Finlay Rushin stopping the Basingstoke forwards.

Oatley and Sabben-Clare both scored for Petersfield in the second half, although goalkeeper Edward Black was disappointed to concede Basingstoke’s goal on 68 minutes.

Petersfield will hope to finish their season with a third successive win today (Saturday), when they will face Gosport Borough’s second team.
