Aldershot Town’s club photographer Ian Morsman says he loves the variety his role gives him.

Morsman, who has been with the Shots for 35 years, has lifted the lid on his role as part of the Herald’s series of features on the inner workings of football clubs across the patch.

“I’ve been working with the Shots since late 1991,” said Morsman.

“I first met Karl Prentice, who was producing the programme at the time, and he asked me to take some photographs for future editions.

“From there, I became increasingly involved with the club, and more than three decades later, I’m still here and looking forward to the 2026-27 season.

“No two days are ever quite the same. During pre-season, much of my time is spent photographing new signings, kit launches, training sessions and friendly matches.

“Once the season gets underway, I’m travelling across the country to cover games and preparing images for the matchday programme, website and social media channels.

“I also work closely with the media team, providing photography and content whenever it’s needed.

“I’ve always enjoyed working at the club and doing my part to help promote the Shots, the team and everyone connected with it.”

Morsman says engaging with the local community is extremely important for the Shots.

“It’s absolutely vital – a football club can only thrive with the support of its community,” said Morsman.

“As a club based in a military town, we have strong links with the armed forces and work closely on initiatives that support serving personnel, veterans and their wellbeing.

“Equally important is the work we do with local residents, supporters and community groups.

“Everyone is valued, and together they form a close-knit football family that is at the heart of the club.”

Morsman admits there have been a number of highlights during his time at the club.

“There have been so many memorable moments over the years, but winning the FA Trophy two seasons ago stands out as one of the biggest,” said Morsman.

“The joy it brought to the club and supporters was incredible, and seeing the trophy parade through the town the following day made it even more special.

“Winning promotion back to the Football League at Exeter was another unforgettable and emotional occasion.

“Then there was the famous cup victory at Swindon Town, which remains one of the club’s great days.

“After more than 35 years with the Shots, I’ve been lucky enough to witness countless special moments, far too many to mention.”

Morsman is quietly confident the Shots can enjoy a successful 2026-27 campaign.

“There’s a real sense of optimism around the club at the moment, thanks to the new management team and the players they’ve brought together,” said Morsman.

“I’m fortunate enough to have known our new manager since he was 16 years old, and it’s been fantastic to see his journey.

“The chairman has also been a real inspiration throughout pre-season. Overall, there’s definitely a renewed sense of excitement around the club.

“If we can achieve a solid mid-table finish and enjoy a good cup run, I’ll be a very happy photographer.

“Most importantly, I hope the supporters have plenty to celebrate and that the club continues to build on the positive momentum we’ve seen during pre-season.”
