Standard bearers led the teams out on to the pitch in the home of the British Army as Aldershot Town marked Armistice Day before their National League clash with Kidderminster Harriers.

After a minute’s silence to remember the Fallen the Shots celebrated a 1-0 win thanks to a Josh Stokes strike in the 24th minute before a crowd of 2,849.

Cian Harries sent a through ball towards the Kidderminster goal and Lorent Tolaj flicked it on into the path of Stokes. He used his strength to hold off Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain and shifted the ball on to his right foot before firing past keeper Christian Dibble.

Shots boss Tommy Widdrington said of the commemoration: “It was unbelievable, it’s the best version of the Armistice Day silence I’ve ever seen. I had a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye.”
