ALTON TN 4,
EAST COWES VICS 0
THIS convincing victory, their second in a row in the Sydenhams League Division One, was a fitting finale for Alton Town’s time at the Bass Sports Ground.
Sean Latimer and Ashley Peck scored two goals apiece as the Brewers inflicted a tenth defeat of the season on struggling East Cowes Vics.
The visitors were feisty, but their physical approach backfired when they were reduced to ten men in the second half.
Alton applied pressure from the start and it seemed only a matter of time before they scored.
The breakthrough duly came when a Sean Hayes corner was headed back by Matt Clarke and Latimer was on hand to tap in.
East Cowes were clearly vulnerable at set-pieces and another corner brought the same result, with Latimer again popping up to make it 2-0.
East Cowes were struggling to create anything themselves and were fortunate to escape unpunished when a player kicked out at Clarke.
The Brewers kicked against the strong wind in the second half, but still managed to double their lead – again with two very similar goals.
Twice, the speedy Peck ran through and clear of the East Cowes defence to slot home clinically.
The visitors finally did get a red card for again kicking out in frustration.
It was a difficult surface for Alton’s farewell appearance on this historic ground, but their quality showed through against aggressive, but limited opponents.
Alton Tn: Nyamunga, Adkins, Taylor, Allaway, Clarke, Greenaway, Hayes, Hunter, Latimer, Peck, Perkins. Subs: Fox, Gray, Greeves.
