FIRST-half goals from Jordan Page and Sam Gillett paved the way for a pulsating 2-1 win for Farnham Town over title-chasing Sheerwater in Combined Counties League Division One at a soggy Memorial Ground on Tuesday night.
Page swept the ball home right footed into the bottom corner to give Town the lead on seven minutes with a goal that typified Farnham’s unwavering committment to the cause all night.
Gillett raced down the left chasing what looked like a lost cause, only to dispossess a defender as he attempted to shepherd the ball out of play before laying the ball off to Ash Peck who squared the ball to Page to calmly smack the ball low into the far corner.
Town, playing with confidence and knocking the ball around well in the first half, then doubled their lead on 27 minutes when Jack Falvey was brought down from behind in the area as he latched onto Otis Taylor’s long ball. Page saw his penalty saved by the Sheerwater keeper but Gillett reacted quickest to joyfully slam home the rebound.
While the first half belonged to a resurgent Farnham, who on Saturday ended a five-game winless run with a 3-1 win at FC Deportivo Galicia, the second half was bossed by the visitors.
But despite pulling a goal back on 61 minutes, Sheerwater were denied as Farnham dug deep to secure an impressive win with a stoic rearguard action.
