A?GROUP of Alton boys, pupils at Amery Hill and Eggar’s schools, have organised themselves into a team called SWUAD and play in the Powerleagues five-a-side competition in Basingstoke on Fridays.

The boys enjoy their Sunday football with Alton United, but wanted to play more and so formed the five-a-side squad, ordered and bought their own strip, and entered the Friday night competition at Basingstoke.

Powerleague matches are well-organised, with good facilities and fully qualified referees for each fixture. The matches can be very tough, but SWUAD showed their determination to succeed and their game has improved as a result. Their reward was winning the league from September to December and they were presented with their trophy and medals last week.

SWUAD are hoping to organise a smaller five-a-side league in Alton, with divisions for U13s and U16s.
