MEGAN Pascoe, a regular competitor at Frensham Sailing Club events, has become a world champion.
She won the 2.4 keelboat World Championships in Hobart, Tasmania, competing from January 6-10.
Pascoe, a top professional sailor who has shrugged off previous disappointments, was the lone UK entry in a field of 32 and faced strong competition from fleets sailing for Australia, New Zealand and Finland amongst others.
Megan Pascoe, based on the South Coast, is a long-time friend of Frensham Sailing Club. She has done winter training sessions on the Great Pond and has helped with Sailability (disabled sailing).
She has also won the annual Frensham open event for the 2.4 class no less than seven times – more than anyone else.
In Tasmania, she emerged victorious with two races to spare in the ten-race series.
She said: “Going into the seventh race, I didn’t realise I would win a day early…”
This is a well-deserved victory for one of the UK’s and Frensham’s most dedicated racing sailors. The local club is proud of its association with Megan and hopes to welcome her for their next open event for 2.4s this summer.
