BLACKNEST Golf Club held their first Junior Open tournament and although there was a relatively small field, entrants came from as far away as Basingstoke, Burhill, North Hants, Romsey and Westridge (IoW), as well as the host club.
The prizes were presented by Jeff Hogg, the Blacknest Golf Club chairman. As well as a trophy for each of the nine and 18-hole competitions, players competed for Nearest the Pin on the 12th and Nearest the Line. Ben Wilson of Westridge won both these prizes.
The winner of the nine-hole competition was Blacknest’s Freddy Thorneycroft (handicap 35) with 24 points, on countback from runner-up John Canning (hcp 42), also of Blacknest.
The 18-hole competition winner was Basingstoke junior Ray Sanmathy (hcp 17) with 35 points. North Hants’ Dan Edes (hcp 10) was second with 34 points.
Blacknest Golf Club were grateful to Greenbanks and Ben Ross for sponsoring the event and providing the prizes and look forward to more entries next year.
