COWDRAY Park Golf Club Seniors’ oldest competition, the Podmore Salver Greensomes, first contested in 1980, was played in good, but chilly conditions.

The first pair out, Alan Sibley and Graham Thompson, set the early pace with 41 points, but later starters Terry Adsett and Dave Gaff equalled that score to win the trophy on count-back. Peter Hallt and David Laver finished third on 40 points.

Results: 1st, Terry Adsett & Dave Gaff (41 pts); 2nd, Alan Sibley & Graham Thompson (41); 3rd, Peter Hallt & David Laver (40).

It was a very mixed week for Cowdray Seniors in inter-club matches. A heavy loss at Farnham was followed by a nice home win against Bramley, and then a 7-0 whitewash at Liphook.

There were some outstanding scores in Cowdray Seniors’ April Stableford. None more so than Richard Burden who won Division Two with 44 points. In Division One, Dave Coombes led the way with an excellent 42 points from Chris Hutchings on 40.

Fourteen players scored a two, with Mike Cardiff managing two, including holing his second shot on the par-four 15th.

Another fine day prevailed for Cowdray Seniors’ annual Heard Tankard (Medal). The trophy was generously donated by David Heard who has yet to get his hands on it. Mick Folkes came out on top with a net 67, but only on countback from Bruce Spooner and Mel Milburn.
