THE final results of Cowdray Park Seniors’ Ken Young Eclectic Trophy had a certain inevitability, as the top three players had maintained position over the last three months.

Phil Harrison clinched his sixth win of the season, ending with 56 points, despite handicap reductions during his strong spell. He racked up eight pars and ten birdies, and topped the leaderboard since July.

He started with victory in the December Stableford, followed by the Captain’s Prize in January, February Stableford, Winter Foursomes (with Ken Marjoram) and finally the Heard Trophy Medal.

Second place went to Peter Hardcastle who only played in seven of the 12 competitions, scoring 57 points, comprising one eagle, six birdies and nine pars.

Third was Terry Jasper who, although failing to finish first or second in any of the events, showed excellent consistency throughout the year.

No holes-in-one were recorded and only four eagles were shot (by Peter Hardcastle, Paul Owen (15th), Mick Fillary (10th), Peter Hallt (8th), indicating a toughening-up of the course.

A record number of 140 players submitted cards during the year.

Cowdray Seniors’ Elliott Cup (2 clubs and a putter) was badly effected by deteriorating weather. Of those completing the course, the winner was Roger Poat (33) from John Renwick (32).
