FOR the first time, the Worldham Golf Club Seniors’ Championships were held over two days.

There was some excellent scoring on a hard, fast course, a testament to greenskeeper Julian Covey and his team.

Rounds of gross 79 and 88 gave 15-handicapper Peter Barwick a four-shot victory over Peter Cottington (hcp 14) who, after a round of 89 on the first day, hit back with an 82, but still fell just short. Steve Smiley (89, 84) was third on 173.

Championship rules say a player can only win one competition, so the handicap trophy went to Dave Burns (hcp 17) who had net rounds of 72 and 68.

Runner-up was Tim Yates (71, 72).

The Ladies Seniors’ Championship title went to Barbara Hogg (hcp 20) who shot gross rounds of 89 and 84 – her best ever – to finish 21 shots ahead of Joanne Wilson (100, 94).

Handicap winner was Patsy Colquhoun with two rounds of 101, giving her a net score of 144 ahead of Jane Boulger on 149.
