HASLEMERE Border AC had a strong turn-out for the final Southern Cross Country League fixture of the year at Lord Wandsworth College on Monday, December 28.

Twenty-eight members ran off the Christmas excesses in conditions that contrasted sharply with previous years – muddy and freakishly mild rather than frosty and hard underfoot.

It was another great race for Haslemere, with the ladies coming in first and the men third, earning the club second place overall after the five-mile race.

Sophia Shearring was the individual women’s winner and Dave Taylor was runner-up in the men’s event, with Tom Mendum third.
