HAVANT III 2, HASLEMERE II 3
HASLEMERE 2nd XI joined in the club’s clean sweep against Havant teams last weekend.
And victory against Havant thirds lifted Haslemere above their opponents into sixth place in Hampshire 1.
With skipper Charlie Millsom promoted to the first team, Tommy Gee led Haslemere who were coming off the back of three wins in cup and league.
However, Haslemere’s press, on which they have worked hard all season, was not up to scratch and it was Havant who took the lead.
The visitors cranked up the tempo and Olly Bamber directed a pinpoint ball to Zac Thomas who took it past the keeper before slotting a reverse into the backboard from a tight angle.
At half-time, Gee calmed down a seething Jamie Cashman who had spent 12 minutes in the sin-bin. A penalty flick proved the best antidote. Cashman converted with aplomb and followed up with a cracker from a short corner to make it 3-1.
Havant were far from finished, though, and pulled one back. Haslemere missed a second penalty flick to keep the pressure on themselves, but held out for a notable win.
* Haslemere III beat Havant IV 4-1 to remain second in Hampshire 4 with one match to play. Third-placed Fleet & Ewshot are just a point behind and visit Haslemere this Saturday in a showdown for promotion.
* Haslemere IV are level on points with Havant V at the top of Hampshire 6 and both teams are assured of promotion.
* Haslemere Vets 3, Wimbledonians 2 (Wessex Supervets Alliance). Two goals from Simon Prichard and a third from David Sewell, intercepting a flying ball across the circle, clinched a fine win for the Veterans against a spirited Wimbledonians side.
