ASH H, the holders, were pushed all the way by their C club-mates in the first semi-final of the Aldershot Table Tennis League Handicap Cup.
The match was tight throughout, with the H team only clinching victory in the last doubles. Their hero was Ben Carr who won all his singles and assisted in the winning doubles. Darren Milstead won two singles and Brian Lunn chipped in with one singles victory and he partnered Carr in the clinching doubles. Chris Carter won two singles for the C team.
In the league, Tennis C went a long way towards ensuring survival in Division?One with an emphatic 8-2 win over Ash B. Paul Shakespeare led the way with a maximum, while team-mates Shaun Newbold and Colin Baggott each won twice.
Phil Snelson, Peter Millard and Paul Baker cleaned up as Central A whitewashed Frimley A.
In Division Two, Tennis E beat Braybrooke A 7-3, thanks mainly to a full house from Darren Brown. Pu Zhang and Andy Murdock supported with doubles, both losing to Braybrooke’s Tony Gabriel.
Robin Street had an unbeaten night for Bentley B who edged out Cody A 6-4. Paul Farrant supported with a pair and Cody’s Peter Anthony also won twice.
Cody D have been the surprise packet in Division?Three and their most recent victory, 8-2 over Fleet B, consolidated their place near the top of the table. Dean Hewitt chalked up another maximum and Bob Fenner was also unbeaten, while Fan Lei supported with two wins.
Tennis F returned to the top of the table with a 9-1 win over Ash D who had only two players. Peter Killick and Graham Marshall were both unbeaten.
Frimley D maintained their promotion push with a 6-4 victory over Ash E. Gary Nicholson secured a maximum for Frimley and the Ash pair of Amy Parkes and Jo Bartlett won two apiece.
Ash G and Tennis H shared the points in Division?Four, with Bob Murrell winning three for Ash. Martin Evans and Keith Johnson both won twice for Tennis.
Crawley Ridge B crushed Ash J 10-0 to reclaim top spot. Phil Garrett, David Skellern and Richard Hornby were the all-conquering trio.
Frimley E kept in the promotion picture with an 8-2 success against Fleet C. Steve Bridle and Dennis Smith were both unbeaten.
