ALTON & District Swimming Club have appointed Shaun Dominy as their new head coach, following Rob Turóczy’s decision to return to Hungary after two very productive years at Alton which brought a period of sustained success.
Turóczy joined the club in March 2015, becoming head coach in September of that year. Under his stewardship, the club has developed and strengthened. He will leave in early summer and during the transition period will act in a senior coaching and advisory role, supporting both his successor and the swimmers.
Shaun Dominy, who is stepping up from assistant coach to take on the top job, has been coaching at the club for a number of years and is delighted at the appointment.
He said: “I would like to thank the club for giving me this opportunity. I have dreamed that one day I might get the chance to lead the club and am now very excited about the challenge ahead. Of course, the news is bitter-sweet for me, coming as it does because my friend and predecessor Rob Turóczy has decided to return to Hungary.
“I’m really pleased that Rob will be around until the summer to continue working with our swimmers, to pass on some of his experience to me and to help develop my coaching and teaching team. During this last year, the club has been working hard to modernise and has been looking at its structures and values. This is very important and I intend to work hard with the committee to get this right, so we can provide the very best opportunities we can for all swimmers in the club.
“It is my job to help every swimmer reach their goals and be the best swimmer they possibly can be.”
