FOR many, the hockey season was done and dusted. Not so for Haslemere 2nd XI who had one more battle to fight – the final of the Hampshire Open League Cup in which they met Fareham II on an Army pitch at Aldershot.
Fareham, who play two leagues higher, started favourites, and the cup began to edge their way when they scored from a short corner and held their 1-0 lead at half-time.
Haslemere equalised from a penalty flick, but Fareham always carried the greater threat in front of goal and they scored twice more to finish deserved winners.
