THIRD Division Passfield – or is it Classfield? – have claimed the Team Handicap trophy in the Farnham and District Billiards and Snooker League after their incredible cup run finished with a 3-1 victory against Lindford B.

The victory in the showpiece event was their fourth on the bounce against a higher division side having previously seen off Liss RBL A, Bourne B and Alton Cons A to reach the final.

Their Division One-bound opponents had a similar run to reach the final and beat undefeated league champions Sovereign B in the previous round.

Allen Barnett – who lost just two out of his 15 league games this season – got Lindford off to a good start with a 66-42 win against Ross Booker in the first frame.

But Andy Wells restored parity with a 61-38 win against Trevor Thomas before James Harvey swept Alan Richards aside by 80 points to 27 in the third.

The final frame was a tense affair but James Moaby defeated John Pavey 36-21 to secure victory for Passfield in the event hosted by Liss RBL A.

Another Farnham & District Billiards & Snooker League competition was settled the week before when Shakeel Ahmad won the President’s Cup.

The Sovereign A cueist defeated Darren Ridgers of Fleet Broadway 3-1 in the final of the singles knockout competition, held at the winner’s club in North Camp.

Alex Elkins of Bourne B won the Plate trophy after seeing off Richard Berkij of Traco while Ridgers and the former both made 39 breaks in the annual competition.

Victory in the competition, which attracted a lower-than-usual 17 entrants, means that Ahmad will play a professional at the league’s presentation night event later this year.
