After two consecutive weeks of cancelled events due to heavy rain, Alton Cycling Club/Owens Cycles resumed their 10-mile time trial summer series last Thursday in perfect conditions on the H10/8 A31 course.

The good going was confirmed by four riders (three wearing the Alton jersey) out of a field of 16 recording personal best times.

The 20-minute barrier in this year’s series was finally breached by Just Pedal Race Team member Ben Hopwood with an excellent 19-42, a personal best.

Former Alton CC junior member Jack Freeman, now riding with Meudon PH Race Team, was second fastest with 20-15 and frequent visitor Dom Brooks of Farnham Triathlon Club took third place with 20-50.

Six Alton riders took part and new member and steady improver Pete Christensen took top home honours with a personal best 21-40.

Iain Cotton recorded 23-12, ahead of Charlie Williams in a PB 24-34 and Keith Parrish with 25-27.

Martin Simmonds, in only his second time trial, managed to knock more than a minute off his debut time back in May with 26-48. Gary Hodgson completed Alton’s showing with 28-45.

Alton Cycling Club/Owens Cycles hold their annual Open 10-mile time trial on Saturday, June 23, starting at 2pm on the A31 bypass course.
