BBC golf commentator and Aldershot Town supporter Peter Alliss will be the special guest at the Shots’ next Sportsman’s Dinner, at Farnborough’s Village Hotel on Friday, November 13.
One of the most engaging speakers on the circuit, the ‘voice of golf’ will discuss his career and the many legendary figures he has met along the way.
He has commentated on golf for over 50 years, backed by the experience of a career which saw him compete in eight Ryder Cups and win 21 professional tournaments between 1954 and 1969.
The son of Percy Alliss, who himself won 18 professional tournaments and joined his son at the 1953 Ryder Cup, Peter turned pro at the age of 16. He also won three British PGA Championships as well as representing England in ten World Cups.
He has twice been captain of the Professional Golfers’ Association and is recognised around the world for his television work. Golf Digest magazine has described him as “the greatest golf commentator ever.”
Peter Alliss, who lives at Hindhead and is an honorary member of Hindhead Golf Club, taught Sean Connery to play golf in 1964, as James Bond took on Auric Goldfinger in the 1964 film. It was a moment which inspired Connery’s lifelong love of the sport.
Tickets for the Sportsman’s Dinner are £60 each, with tables of ten available for businesses, groups or friends, and can be booked by calling Aldershot Town FC on 01252 320211 or emailing [email protected]
