SCARLETT Charles – one the three Charles siblings making their mark in showjumping – had a highly successful weekend in Belgium as part of the GB U18 youth squad.
Riding her father’s 11-year-old mare, Sacree du Rouet, Scarlett delivered faultless rounds throughout the four days of jumping at Sentower Park, Opglabbeek.
The 16-year-old was the only Great Britain U18 rider to jump clear in the Nations Cup.
Eighty-eight European riders took part in the final U18 Grand Prix over a tough 1.40m course and Scarlett, from Bentworth, was one of only 13 to make it through to the final jump-off and the only GB competitor to do so.
She finished fourth in a hard-fought jump-off and was less than a second behind the winner, Matias Larocca from Switzerland, and was the only girl in the top six.
Scarlett, a pupil at Alton Convent, now takes a break from competition as she concentrates on her upcoming GCSEs.
Scarlett, younger sister Sienna and older brother Harry are the children of Peter Charles, a team gold medallist for GB at the 2012 London Olympics.
Peter and Tara Charles breed top horses for showjumpers at their Bentworth base.
