HASLEMERE Motor Cycle Club won the Star Group Trials Championship for the first time for many years at the final round on December 13.
An inter-club championship contested by ten clubs, with each hosting an event, this round was run by Reigate Redhill & North Downs Club at Beare Green.
Haslemere had won on many occasions in the past, but in recent years Thames Club have dominated the championship.
After a close-fought battle, Haslemere went into this year’s final round just four points ahead. Fielding 25 riders, victory was assured with six class wins and six runner-up places. Most of the course sections involved steep climbs and descents in and out of a stream with a combination of rocks, roots and mud.
Wayne Holdsworth won the expert class with an outstanding ride, losing just ten marks to his nearest rival’s 77. Nigel Brimecombe took the novice class ten points ahead of fellow Haslemere rider Garry Reed.
John Dismore and Graham Hutcheson posted first and second in the over-40s, while John Johns had a narrow win over Thames Club rival Peter Haines in the over-50s.
Stuart Hammond had to settle for second in the twin-shock class on ten marks behind Kingston rider Matt Weathers who completed the course with just one mark lost – the lowest score of the day.
The Haslemere club was well served in the youth classes, with Josh Talbot and Joshua Brimecombe first and second in the experts and Ollie Brimecombe and Tom Frearson having a one-two in the intermediates. Reece Talbot and Jazz Hammond scored second and third in the novices.
