Around 500 runners of all ages and abilities from across Surrey and as far afield as Japan and Saudi Arabia gathered on May 22 to take part in the annual Godalming Run, marking its ten-year anniversary.

Crowds joined volunteer event marshals in cheering on the 1k fun runners, 5k and 10k participants.

Yoko Inoue from Japan won the women’s 10k in just 45min 30sec and said: “I loved the run, the scenery and even the hills! It really was a beautiful experience and so well organised.

“I have been in the UK for only a few weeks, and this is the first time I have entered the run. It felt amazing to win the 10k and I will be sharing the news with my family back home.”

Sam Allwood, a former member of the Waverley Harriers, won the men’s 10k in 41.55 secs.

He lived in Godalming for six years before relocating to Saudi Arabia.

Daniel Mccrohan and his wife Tatao ran the 5k race with their daughter Yoyo, who came first in the women’s category.

He said: “I am very proud of Yoyo – she did amazingly well as she is just 12 years old. We run a lot as a family and take part in local park runs.

“This is our second time at the Godalming Run and we love the course, especially the riverside paths and woodland trails. I encourage other families to sign up next year.”

Tim Ostle, race commentator and commercial director at Charterhouse, said: “We have supported this special event since it was launched following the London Olympics and it was fantastic to welcome back so many local participants and the new runners from overseas.”
