HOMEOWNERS in Bordon are, on average, likely to live in six homes during their lifetimes, according to a new survey to mark New Homes Week from May 15-21.

The Barratt Homes study into house moves revealed that older people averaged six homes in a lifetime, while younger people anticipated moving four times.

The findings - perhaps surprisingly - go against the perception of the younger generation being seen as more fluid and transient; the job market more volatile, and the world more travelled and easier to explore.

According to Barratt Homes, of the factors that encourage Bordon homeowners to find, and stay in, the area, the main reason is affordability (46.9 per cent), followed by good amenities (46.15 per cent), being close to friends and family (43.85 per cent) and good transport links (40.8 per cent).

Criteria which does not rank so critically includes access to local attractions, sports and entertainment (20 per cent); and being close to good schools (25.4 per cent).

Barratt Homes sales director Michelle Storer said: “We can take from this survey that people in Bordon are generally happy with their homes. They choose to stay in the area for reasons such as proximity to work and to services, while family and friends play a big factor in their decisions.”

She said the fact that new homes were designed to be flexible and accommodate couples and families at different times of their lives was likely to mean even fewer moves it the future.

“New Homes Week is a great opportunity to showcase how new homes are designed with modern living in mind,” she said.

“Buyers like the flexibility of open-plan living, the ease of working from home and the build quality and energy benefits of new homes.

“They know that these homes have been well designed with the future in mind and have been built in sought-after locations.”
