AFTER more than a century of teaching in the town, Bordon’s Weyford Infant School and Nursery will be closing this week - but only to rise again in September as part of one single all-through primary school.
Plans to amalgamate Weyford infant and Weyford junior schools were given permission in January and, after the summer holidays, Weyford Primary School will open.
Hampshire County Council gave the go ahead following a public consultation on the schools’ idea to operate in tandem.
Weyford Infant School governor Sam Archibald told the Bordon Herald: “Weyford Nursery and Primary School will be opening its doors with a new headteacher, Mrs Julie Smith. It made sense as most of the junior intake each year came from the infant school and with the retirement of Liz George, in December 2015, from the infant school and the move of Jilly Myers, in September 2016, from the junior school, Diane Lawry took on a great feat to manage both schools as the executive headteacher.”
The day-to-day operation of the schools, in their current locations, will not change much. The school will have 630 places.
