An eating challenge at a Hampshire bakery and café has piled on the pounds for a Petersfield charity.

Fundraisers were full of beans as the Village Bakery and Café handed over nearly £500 to March for Men with Kev.

The Pubrook eatery raised the dough through a Monthly Breakfast Challenge with many taking on – and mostly failing – to put away a massive fry-up against the clock.

The challenge has gone viral with the London road café and community hub gaining nearly 50,000 social media followers in recent months.

But it was also very successful in raising awareness of prostate cancer and generating vital funds for the charities and organisations supported by MFMWK – namely Prostate Cancer UK, PCaSO and The Rosemary Foundation.

Proceeds from the challenge are given to a different charity every month with MFMWK getting the nod in April, and the cheque being presented on May 2.

For those not familiar with the good cause, March for Men with Kev is a fundraising walk and awareness event held annually in memory of Kevan Birkett.

Kev was a much-missed family man, father, decorator and Leeds United fan who tirelessly raised awareness of prostate cancer while battling the disease.

The event held in his memory sees people walk 2.5, 5 or 10k routes around Petersfield with proceeds being split between the aforementioned charities.

Last year’s event was the biggest yet with more than 300 taking part while registrations are flowing in for the 2026 fundraiser on September 13 in The Square.

“Kev was much loved and is a sorely missed local family men,” said MFMWK spokesperson, Lucinda Long.

“But his legacy lives on in every mile we walk in March for Men with Kev, which is now in its fourth year.”
