A much-loved charity based in Farnham has an early Christmas wish for its supporters – please sign up for a festive fun run, ,writes Lucy Packer.

Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care is now accepting early registration for its popular Santa and Elf Fun Run in Fleet

Last year’s event raised £22,000 with people 500 making a mad dasher for the finish line at the annual fundraiser.

Participants can either run or walk a 5k or 2k route with the starting pistol being fired at 11am at Elevetham Heath on Sunday, December 13.

Entrants will be given a Santa t-shirt and festive hat for taking part and a medal for finishing the course.

The money raised goes directly to funding therapies, counselling, social work advice, nursing and medical care, while there’s also a little incentive for children.

“This year we also have a colouring competition open to all children who enter the fun run,” said Fiona Chapman, Phyllis Tuckwell event fundraiser.

“The Rotary of Hart have kindly donated three prizes of Smyths vouchers for the winners - £150 for first place, £75 for second place and £25 for third.”

Meanwhile, SC Johnson’s office in Frimley has been thanked for donating to the New Hospice appeal, with funds going on a new family room. The room is a quiet space for families who’s loved ones are being treated for symptom management or end of life care.

Theresa Eckley, Deputy Director at Phyllis Tuckwell said: “The Family Room is such an amazing space”.

“This relaxing area offers games, a TV, a small kitchen and ensuite, with access to a private courtyard garden space.

She added: “It's so well used. The families of our patients think it's brilliant.”
