A café or shop could be coming to a village south of Bordon as campaigners mean business.
People behind plans to create a community hub in Greatham believe there is enough support in the village to make the scheme a reality.
The verdict follows two drop-in events that attracted 100 people and a March survey with the majority of its 186 respondents overwhelming backing the idea.
Members of the Greatham Community Hub Action Group have decided to move things forward by creating a Community Benefit Society (CBS) and putting together a business plan.
A CBS is a not-for-profit business model that has a one member, one vote principle. Such organisations are also attractive to grant-giving bodies are often popular for community ownership of local assets.
Two thirds of the people who took part in the survey were Greatham residents with the remainder coming from Headley Down, Whitehill & Bordon, Liss, Liphook and Oakhanger.
A café was the most popular request while a shop, public conveniences, post office and social meet-up venue also featured in the top five.
There were also ideas on what could compliment the hub with tennis courts, a fitness trail, food bank, multi-purpose courts and day centre for the elderly among the varied proposals.
Survey organisers were also encouraged by the hub’s possible usage with 45 per cent saying they would visit at least two or three times a week, and 23 per cent making a weekly visit.
A location for a would-be hub hasn’t been confirmed but it’s thought the village hall area would be a contender. The action group also visited around a dozen similar hubs across three counties ahead of their drop-in events for inspiration and research.
