STUDENTS, staff, parents and governors of Bohunt School have been celebrating another year of superb GCSE exam results right across the year group.
Having been at the centre of the controversial BBC series about trying to prove if Chinese teaching methods could outperform those in the UK, a total of 268 Bohunt students of all abilities and backgrounds have reached excellent achievements.
The Liphook secondary school’s results were a long way ahead of the national picture – more than 20 per cent up on last year’s national average.
Progress figures in maths have been exceptional and, according to headteacher Neil Strowger, could well be the best in Hampshire after achieving 88 per cent – the national average was 67 per cent last year.
Value added figures are also very high and 71 per cent of children who receive free school meals achieved five A*-C including English and maths, which is 17 per cent above the national average for all students last year.
The percentage of year 11 candidates achieving five or more GCSE passes at grade C or above, including maths and English, was 80 per cent in 2015.
Bohunt revealed more outstanding results with 100 per cent of Global Perspectives students achieving an A* or A, as well as 100 per cent of students passing Mandarin, statistics, Japanese and dance, while the French immersion language group, who took their GCSEs two years early, achieved 72 per cent A* or A passes, with every students passing the exam.
Mr Strowger told The Herald: “We are all immensely proud of these record results which reflect the hard work, effort and talent of our learners.
“I am terrifically proud to recognise alongside these laudable achievements, the high quality support our learners receive from governors, parents and an enthusiastic staff.
“We at Bohunt attach great importance to all our learners achieving and enjoying success. Life isn’t all about examination grades, but such results indubitably give Bohunt students great life chances.”
