A CONTROVERSIAL application to allow a garage in Headley Down to sell alcohol has been given the go ahead by East Hampshire District Council.

Beech Hill Garage was granted permission to sell alcohol recently, at the council's licensing sub-committee hearing, despite resistance from members of the community, including from the neighbouring St Francis Community Church.

The church's chairman of trustees Martin Firman told the Bordon Herald that the church had threatened to remove a long-standing agreement to allow vehicles access to the garage if it started selling alcohol.
