A military charity has shared an important message with Petersfield residents as it battles for its future.
The Petersfield Branch of the Royal British Legion is looking for more members as the good cause desperately needs to swell its ranks.
The RBL is arguably one of Petersfield’s most important organisations given the role it plays in Remembrance events and the VE Day and VJ Day commemorations.
They also raise huge sums annually for the Poppy Appeal and provide support to current and past members of the armed forces and their families.
But while the town owes so much to so few, there’s only so long the RBL can continue in its current form.
“We are in need of new blood,” said Petersfield RBL president, David Lodrick.
“We do need a push for membership so we’re appealing to all the serving, ex-serving personnel and civilians to consider joining.
“You don’t have to be member of the armed forces to be a member, or be related to anyone who was, either.
“We’re looking for new members of all ages. Everyone is welcome to become part of a community that believes in our cause.”
While the Petersfield RBL does not have a bricks and mortar home like its counterparts in Liss and Alton, the branch meets regularly in The Folly Bar.
It also “punches above its weight” nationally, raising more than £30,000 a year for the RBL despite its limited numbers, so it’s place in the community cannot be underestimated.
If you are interested in joining or would like more information, look for ‘Petersfield RBL’ at https://www.britishlegion.org.uk/ or get in touch with David at [email protected] or 07842 755196.
Alternatively, pop along to one of their meetings, held from 7.30pm on the second Wednesday of the month at The Folly downstairs.
