BUDDING musicians across Hampshire are being invited to bid for a share of funding to help them develop their talents.

Applications are being invited for the 2016 round of Dayas Music Scholarships. This is an annual grants scheme administered by Hampshire County Council and set up from a sum of money left by Mrs Hayton (nee Dayas), a former Hampshire teacher, in her will.

Peter Edgar, the county council’s executive member for education, said: “These music scholarships give people above school age the chance to either seek support for new musical interests, have lessons to help them refresh their musical skills in singing or playing an instrument, or to further develop skills in areas such as composition, conducting and performance.

“Auditions are not required as the application process is dealt with in writing.”

Application forms are available from the county council’s music service by calling 023 8065 2037 or e-mailing [email protected].

The closing date for applications is January 31.
