It’s not only students who are going back to school as a youth club is making a welcome return to Whitehill & Bordon.

Excitement is growing among local youngsters as the Y+ Youth Hub will open next Wednesday (September 17) on the Oakmoor School site.

The hub will be operated by Y+ Youth Services and will run from the end of the school day to 6pm every Wednesday and Thursday.

It’s been a long time coming according to Y+ founder Jodie Gibbs-Farrow as there’s been efforts to reopen a youth club in town since Project 94 closed in June ahead of the area’s redevelopment.

She said: “It will provide a space for young people to decompress after a day at school, socialise, seek help and support, and attend an inclusive safe space that welcomes young people not just from Oakmoor School, but from schools across the area, and home educated young people.”

She added: “It's been really hard keeping the new location under wraps while we got the details sorted out, but we're almost ready.”

The move caps a great summer for Y+ Youth Services as they recently took over management of Woodlands Community Hall in Headley Down.

Cllr Andy Tree, leader of Whitehill & Bordon Community Party, also supported the project by approving a £12,400 Supporting Communities Grant from his EHDC role.

He said: “This grant means Y+ will continue to have a core offering within W&B for our young people.”

Oakmoor headteacher Nigel Wright is delighted with the move, saying: “The work Y+ does in providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive space for young people in Bordon and Whitehill is invaluable.

“By opening our doors to the Y+ Youth Club, we hope to ensure even more young people can access the opportunities, guidance, and community that Y+ offers.”
